So is everyone ready to have tight, fair voter ID laws and rational rules that ensure every ballot is counted by Election NIght, or do we just say "nah" and do all this again next time?
There is no logical reason for any of the chaos we're seeing right now. None. There is no reason we couldn't have an orderly, efficient, process that functions with a high degree of accuracy no matter how close the vote is, or whether there's a pandemic.
Think of all the loony excuses advanced by people who fought against voter ID laws over the years. How are all of those excuses looking this morning? Any of them sound more compelling that what we're going through right now?
Not to toot the horn of my home state, but Florida had the biggest disaster anyone had seen before now in 2000 - and learned hard lessons that produced sound policies. Why didn't EVERYONE, everywhere, learn those lessons? Because some people REFUSED to learn them, that's why.
There is absolutely no reason to tolerate a process that has loads of ballots appearing in the small hours of the night and people fighting over whether to count mail-ins that appear days after the election. None. It's absolute lunacy and utterly unnecessary.
There is no reason every ballot cannot be tracked as carefully as every state tracks its lottery tickets. There is no reason to spare lazy voters "inconvenience" by having crazy procedures that inconvenience EVERYONE ELSE outrageously through days of chaos after the election.
We're going through this gut-churning national crisis right now because we were FORCED to go through it by people who refused to implement the rules that would have prevented it.
Decline is a choice. This madness was chosen for us. None of it was necessary at all. /end
