I’m trying to understand why Trump’s vote share among Hispanics and Black men has gone up and I’m hearing well reasoned arguments.

But the one thing I keep coming back to is being a liberal is exhausting sometimes.
Trying to understand Trump’s appeal beyond racism and xenophobia will be a challenge for the Democratic Party. The question we should be asking ourselves is why are so many people turned off by politics in the first place.
To be a liberal means you have to care about the climate, you have to care about immigrants (and their children), you have to care about African-Americans and their plight. You have to really care about LGBTQ community, and don’t mispronounce the acronym.
And while Trump is a horrible, horrible no good racist — he doesn’t require a litmus test to be in his tribe. Here’s the thing: we all go through life dealing with shitty people and navigating horrible circumstances. That’s life. The world keeps spinning.
But when it comes to our politics we’ve placed this burden on voters to suddenly shift their mindset to be the moral police. One caveat: We should expect the highest moral standards and integrity from public officials.

BUT we’ve turned into religion.
Trump says, hey if you don’t judge, I won’t judge you in return. And I’m beginning to see the appeal in that.
We’re barely winning against the most heinous president in modern history and I haven’t heard one explanation that goes deeper than surface observations I can get on MSNBC.
