Lizzie Woolley talks about vibration monitoring, the team studied how masonry work will affect the paintings in the Houses of Parliament. You can see the wall paintings outlined with red, the renovations happened in the rooms next to it #IICCongress
There were already cracks on the mural before the renovations which meant increased risk. These cracks became the location where data loggers were put #IICCongress
damage on wall paintings can occur with vibrations above 0.2g! So they set their loggers with a threshold of 0.15g. Any dot you see in the picture below is vibrations over 0.15g. Those metal hammers produce lots of vibrations (peach highlight) #IICCongress
The drill also gave quite a bit of vibration (the first yellow highlight from the left), Angle-grinder was the best (green highlight). #IICCongress
