I’m not sure I can explain this well via Twitter, but the Black women in my life are not trying to “save this democracy”. We voted for ourselves. And for our mothers and aunties. We voted for immigrants and refugees, for the incarcerated and recently released.
We voted for the neighborhood kids and the “urban” cities we love. We looked at the world around us and asked where can our hope and our strategy meet and landed on a candidate. We voted our values. We voted asking 2 questions- who could win + who can we potentially push forward
But we did not vote to save white people from themselves. We are not your magic wand. We are not the servants looking out for you better than you look out for yourselves. We are not magically guiding you toward your better self. We are human. And we are fighting for *our* lives.
We are fighting for all those whose lives are at stake when oppression is worshipped instead of challenged.
