As frustrating as all this is to watch, I do understand why they have to be so incredibly cautious.
This won't be a popular take, but what scares me, and has scared me, is how used we have all gotten to Trumpism. The way it has poisoned all of us at least a little bit. So yeah, if the roles were reversed, then XYZ. Okay, but the whole point of this is to be nothing like Trump.
It's true Biden is on track to win. That the mathematical possibility of Trump winning has winnowed to almost nothing. I can see why this is infuriating to stats people. But I don't agree with a lot of the arguments that Trump is more dangerous without a call than with one.
He'll be in the White House until Jan. Dealing with all the things he'll say & do from there in the next 2.5 months is going to be a nightmare, call or no call. Injecting spirit of calm while fortifying safeguards around the inevitability of his departure is probably a good thing
It's not at all fair that this transfer of power has to happen the way it does. But here we are. This was never going to feel like an election from before 2016. It may be a weird road to January 20th, but I think we'll get there.
I think of that Nevada election official, Joe Gloria, when he got interrupted by the BBQ Beer Freedom guy. He stood calmly while the dude was escorted away, and then he turned back to the audience and asked, as if nothing had happened, "so what was the last question?"
