Happy #IDMP2020 everyone! It's been a funny old year, but I thought it might be nice to summarise what I do day to day as a health professional in medical physics
So, this was my week...

I'm a clinical scientist in radiotherapy, and until this week worked mainly in external beam treatment planning. Here we optimise the radiation treatments patients will get and help ensure they are safe and effective. (2/8)
I've also this week started working in brachytherapy. This is a different kind of radiotherapy where we place small sources of radioactivity very close to the target disease, rather than aiming beams of radiation in from outside. (3/8)
This week as I've moved into a new department I've been mainly getting to grips with that! There were lots of rules to read to make sure I could operate safely in all the different areas and know how to respond in an emergency. (4/8)
I also went into the operating theatre to see some prostate treatments (scrubs are great), and have been training to plan treatments for them. I'm also training for gynae procedures, and regular quality control tasks where we check everything is safe. (5/8)
I still work partly in external beam planning though, so went up for one day to be on "bleep". A qualified physicist holds a pager and can respond to any queries and troubleshoot problems. I had a long and busy day but saw some really interesting things which was great! (6/8)
I'm also finishing off a project in treatment planning. We're introducing a very complicated new bit of software for planning so I've been involved with setting it up, testing it and training others. (7/8)
What we do is super varied but I really enjoy it! Other medical physicists - what are you up to at the moment?
