My sister was tested for #COVID19BC yesterday afternoon. Staff commented that they are, “so understaffed that RN’s are doing cleanup.”

She called today to ask about her results. They told her, “you’re not in the database, we’ll have to call you back.”

An hour later, an RN called her to say she was positive. She also added, “you were on the list to be called tomorrow.”

My sister asked: should I give you a list of contacts?

RN: Someone else will call you back to do that in the next day or two.

I’d say the whole system is understaffed.

My sister asked about having her 92-year-old mother in law tested, who is on her exposure list.

RN: no, she needs to wait and see.

She’s 92 and you wouldn’t have contacted her for a few days!

This is getting messier by the day!

Update: Sister has received another call, but no contact tracing. Questions about symptoms. She lost her sense of taste and smell yesterday. She’s been told she can remove herself from quarantine on Wednesday, regardless of symptoms as most symptoms last up to a month.
Update 2: Still absolutely no contact tracing, no call, nothing. Two calls from public health total: first was a confirmation of positive result and second was a checklist of her symptoms. That’s it.
Update 3: still no contact tracing, my sister even called them to offer.

She asked: can I be retested before resuming “normal,” I do a great deal with my 92 year-old MIL.

They said: no, we don’t do that.

She asked: what if I get Covid19 again?

They said: you can’t.
Update 4: tested on Saturday, relayed a positive result on Sunday, it’s Tuesday morning and still NO CALL from contact tracing!

Things are going really well, @adriandix! I mean, really well, @jjhorgan. Wake up, @DrBonnieHenry!
Update 5: contact tracing called my sister, told her she contracted the virus on Halloween (they’re psychic now) and they still don’t have time to take her list of contacts. They don’t know where she was or who she was with on Halloween, but they know when she got infected. 🙄
Update 6: contact tracing called again, “you should ask your doctor if you have a sinus infection...there are many false positives...we’ll call you on the 12th, but if we don’t call it’s cause we’re understaffed.”

WTF is happening in B.C.?
Update 6.5: I forgot to mention that the nurse asked my sister if she had been notified by her gym of an exposure. She said, no, I train in a private gym (no other people at all) with my trainer, who wears a mask.

They’re actively TRYING to blame gyms. Brutal!
