EVERYTHING I’ve learned taking Twitter seriously since February.
A curated collection of thoughts and ideas about doing Twitter better.

Part 1 is here if you want to catch up. https://twitter.com/craigburgess/status/1324699131030491136?s=21
You can build a big following on Twitter by being completely anonymous.
But I’m convinced now after seeing others doing it (and how some have shown their face like @waronweakness) that there’s a hard limit to what you can achieve.
It’ll always be low ticket sales.

Also if you want TRUE fans—people who will buy anything you make—you need to show yourself. Share yourself. Show who you REALLY are.
Would you buy an expensive consultancy package from somebody when you’ve never even seen their face and you don’t know their real name?

Even just putting your real name in your Twitter account helps. It’s a start towards showing yourself online.
But eventually I do think you need to show yourself to keep growing.

Get a professional photo of yourself and use it.
Show yourself in your best light, not just a random snap in your poorly lit back garden.

People enjoy seeing the real you. They’ll connect with you.
Show yourself across videos, podcasts, photos and stories of your “real life”.

Stop pretending to be somebody you’re not.
You’ll get found out eventually.

Share the value from your failures as much as you share the value from your successes.
People will doubt you if you seem too perfect and they’ll presume you’re “fake”.
++ Build your own online drama ++
People love stories. People love following dramas. Create your own.

We all love to follow other people's dramas (in a good way).
Allow people to access your drama through showing yourself online.
Share what you're working on, what you're focused on, what you're planning on doing next.

Even if things go really wrong you can still share everything you've learned.
You get followers by writing tweets, but you make friends in the DMs.
Compliment people in their DMs.
Tell them you enjoyed their tweets.
Everybody loves compliments.

Note: sometimes you can have more interesting conversations in DMs.
If you don’t want to have the coversation publicly, don’t hestitate to DM somebody.
You’d be surprised how often people reply.

Another reason to do this:
When you DM somebody and they reply, you are very likely to appear in their timeline the next time they check Twitter.

AND… that’s it for Part 2.
I’ll be back in a few days for Part 3.
