I'm going to jump ahead to a Veteran's Day tweet.

My dad was in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He joined at 17 yrs old, after having to put on 10 lbs to make minimum weight. He was an engine mechanic & was selected for the Aviation Cadet program. War ended before he got wings.

He never left the states. His service dates were Oct 43 to Sep 45. He spent his time on a few airfields in Kansas, and taking classes at Southern Illinois University. All he ever told me about was being a mechanic. He died when I was 12 & I learned about the rest much later.

He was 1st Gen American. His folks came from Hungary in 1910. His dad died when he was 8. I found this picture of him & Grandma in Kansas(?) I never pictured her outside the holler in West Virginia.

Right out of the service he went to Glenville St College on the GI Bill. I wanted to do this to show you what Veteran's Day 1946 looked like on campus. The building in the 2nd pic is the science building. 15 years later, he taught there on the 3rd floor.

Can't stop without showing his car, a Model T and I don't know the year. The other picture is on Sadie Hawkins Day, once a school holiday in West Virginia. Based on the cartoon Li'l Abner. Dad was Lonesome Polecat, sidekick to Hairless Joe, brewers of Kickapoo Joy Juice.
