Changing how people move from A-B is great, but we need to change how A looks. Homes & streets need to be designed primarily for people, especially new developments in towns & cities. We need to stop prioritising vehicle movement & storage in new residential areas. @leecraigie_ https://twitter.com/leecraigie_/status/1326467842343100416
There’s a lot of design advice on retrofit for existing roads, and new A-B infrastructure, but hardly a sausage on how to make new streets and new homes prioritise #ActiveTravel. Along with @Collective_Arch we did a huge amount of research to make our Meadowbank project... 2/
...prioritise people movement, play, safety. It’s a huge change from donuting around houses with traditional road geometry. It’s more efficient. It looks more attractive. Designing homes with dedicated storage for mobility-enabling things like bikes, trailers, cargo bikes... 3/
...is key. People need to be able to roll to their front door with their shopping & store their new cargo bike securely. It needs to be THE choice, not the second choice. Would love to share more about this project w/ @leecraigie_ and @SustransScot (who’ve already been in touch!)
