With United needing a defensive midfielder I’ve done some research and my eye fell on RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer, a quick, smart, pressing and comfortable on the ball defensive midfielder, exactly what United need.
In this thread I will discuss:

1. LAIMERS’S MAIN ATTRIBUTES:
One of Laimer’s main attributes is his pressing of the ball and wining the ball back quick, not only defensively but also attackingly. His work rate will complement the likes of Paul Pogba or a Matic who aren’t the quickest across the ground.

But he isn’t only great with his pressing. But also is great defensively, he has the most tackles (75) of any player in the Bundesliga in the 19/20 season. And has a tackle rate of 49% what’s better than McTominay 46%,
Fred 45% and Matic 40%.

His passing is really good, he can break the line and can keep the ball moving and he has an pass accuracy of 85%.
But he also has his flaws he isn’t the strongest and with 5’11 he isn’t the best in the air winning only 43% of his aerial duels.

23 year old Laimer has a market value of around 30 million, a great deal. I’ll look at players around the same price and quality’s to show how great this deal could be for United.

3. SYSTEMS OF PLAY.
The 2 systems I will show is the 4-2-3-1 and the 4-3-3 that are the formations we tend to play.

4231: The formation we’re using the most at this moment in time and were Laimer could be a little more attacking than the 433 because he has another defensive midfielder next to him. This gives him more license to roam and express his passing.
433: This formation would be my preferred formation, Laimer could focus himself on the defensive side and give players like Bruno and Donny more freedom to attack, and he can show his best side.
The 433 will get the best out of our midfield, this gives us a lot of creativity in the final third so we can break down teams easier and with the energy of Donny, Bruno and Laimer would make us able to press the opposition and get the ball back quickly to start attacking again.
4. MY THOUGHTS.
I think overall Laimer would be a great addition to our squad, he is perfect for what we need, he is a great price and being only 23 he has a lot of potential to grow into a world class defensive midfielder.
