The @oksde board of ed meets at 9:30. They've been under increasing pressure to reconsider a mask mandate in schools. But nothing on the agenda indicates they plan to discuss #COVID19 in schools, other than an update from the @HealthyOklahoma. Agenda: https://sde.ok.gov/sites/default/files/November%2012%202020%20Spec%20SBE%20Mtg%20Agenda.pdf
Joe Dorman, CEO of @OklaChildAdv, is imploring the @oksde board to reconsider and pass a mask mandate. He apologized if he caused any "ill will" with his public billboard campaign, which called out the board members for their earlier votes.
. @joy4ok addresses the mask mandate, saying it's no secret she has very much supported a mask mandate in #oklaed. She's now asking the board to adopt a resolution imploring school boards to require masks on campus and in district vehicles and especially in classrooms.
In adopting the resolution, the @oksde board is taking an approach similar to @GovStitt by not requiring but instead encouraging wearing masks. For @oksde board members, it's "local control." For @GovStitt it's "personal responsibility."
On state testing in the spring, @oksde wants to extend the window by several weeks. "We don't know yet what will happen in the spring... Regardless we need to know where students need to be supported," said @oksde 's Christy McCreary, executive director of assessments.
Interestingly the @oksde says they are tracking the model each student is in - virtual, blended or in-person - and will be able to analyze test results with an eye to the effectiveness of each model. #oklaed
The @oksde 's proposed testing window passes. Reminder: these are federally mandated tests (all but US history). They were waived in 2020 but have not been for 2021.
Under discussion now: the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship, a school choice programs for students with disabilities. Some have questioned whether the board stepped outside its scope several years ago in requiring schools to have certain anti-discrimination policies. #oklaed
I'm still here
. @oksde is still happening - just passed the five hour mark. Lots of lengthy discussion on legal issues. Next item is re: @EpicCharter so stay tuned!

. @oksde attorney has made a very thorough presentation on @EpicCharter detailing the @oksde attempts at getting accurate reporting, information and compliance. @joy4ok said it has been an "ongoing pursuit for information."
Board member Estela Hernandez mentions the recent move by lawmakers to request an audit of the @oksde. What other schools would they find that are not in compliance? she asks. @joy4ok says there's a fundamental breakdown in @EpicCharter's board oversight
Bill Hickman, attorney for @EpicCharter, is now describing to the @oksde board the voluntary corrective actions the schools have taken so far following the audit findings.
. @joy4ok is delivering some of the strongest words yet to @EpicCharter. "Before another dollar is spent here, we want to make sure we have your full attention." She is demanding full compliance, not a little bit.
