1/3 Argh. "Suicide figures are up 200% since lockdown." is blowing up my timeline. I have seen no evidence for this in the US. An editorial today in @bmj_latest says rates are mostly level maybe even decreased but there is a huge data gap on this issue https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4352
2/3 Early in the pandemic there was excessive alarmist reporting about suicide rates that was not backed up with any evidence.

@800273TALK @CrisisTextLine @TrevorProject and similar programs are truly wonderful and are definitely needed more than ever before...
3/3 ...But spreading inaccurate information about a serious medical issue is counterproductive however well intentioned...
