McConnell’s incentive is obvious — it gives Perdue and Loeffler something to tout on the trail and neutralizes an easy argument from Ossoff and Warnock about why it’s important they win
But Trump doesn’t give a damn about downballot Republicans and I just think on a primal level he won’t feel like helping to provide relief to the country after getting the boot
I also think McConnell fails to muster votes without heavy cover from Trump bc Cruz/Johnson/Cotton don’t care about the majority or their colleagues and they have been dying to bring back austerity politics and ride a second tea party wave
. @ryangrim had a great thread about this earlier this year, but it’s a lot easier to position yourself for a presidential run from the minority, and there are many ambitious Senate Rs who are happy to tank their colleagues if there are multiple political benefits for themselves
