I dunno if y’all know this, but you can roll up to Harbor Freight, throw two bills at them and leave with everything you need to (re)learn how to weld.

It’s been 25ish years since I’ve burned myself, er, I mean welded. Tonight in my garage I relit that flame. (That’s humor)
I’m amazed at the cheap tech! Welding masks that self darken! Welder that weighs 10#. Flux core wire that didn’t exist 25 years ago! It’s amazing!

I knew the theory... which, in theory is the same as practice, but in practice is quite different. I started rough...
But I could see what was happening so I dialed it in... and blew holes in my test metal.
But that’s why we practice. And in 30 min or so I was dialed in better.
And I’ll practice 45 min night or so. I won’t be pro, but I’ll get it done. Along with some physical validation of my existence. Which is nice.

My wooden topped fire station tonight:
It’s easy to feel like tech is all about GPUs and such. But tech moves everywhere. And 25 years after I last burned a welding rod I can buy cheap tools that allow me to stick metal together in suburbia for $200 using house current. That’s kinda nuts. And also fun as hell.
My test subject was a 3” exhaust off of a 69 Camero which I had laying around because the guy I bought my Jeep from threw it on the trailer as I drove off. As happens.
