Like Dave’s struggle with masculinity is at the center of their narrative, and masculinity is always something that is imposed on them against their will. First with Bro’s rooftop ninja training which was thinly veiled abuse as Bro tried to ‘toughen Dave up’
I think many trans girls or amab nonbinary folks can relate to having a father figure desperately wanting them to be their son, imposing their own ideas of masculinity on them, sometimes violently, with increasing desperation as they realize it isnt taking
And then Dave enters the medium, which is all clashing metal and red hot lava the colour of their blood. And theyre expected to fill the role of hero and protector, and die multiple times protecting their friends.
