A little thread with some info, which I think some need to know before watching the fourth season of “The Crown”: ⬇️
Please DO NOT confuse the family of the late Queen Mother with the Queen's family. Apparently in the fourth season they will show the life of Miss Nerissa & Miss Katherine Bowes-Lyon.
Nerrisa and Katherine were daughters of The Hon. John & The Hon. Fenella Bowes-Lyon, brother and sister-in-law of the late Queen Mother. They had two other sisters, Patricia who died in childhood and Anne (who later became Princess of Denmark).
Nerissa and Katherine had mental disorders, so in 1941, they were sent to a hospital in Surrey, as was customary at the time. Their father died in 1930, *before* they were sent to the hospital for people with mental disorders.
They were not from the royal family, they only had a connection with the Queen (later Queen Mother) and her daughters, so nothing needed to be announced by the palace.
In 1963, both were reportedly killed by had completed the form for Burke's Peerage.
Probably their own mother, Fenella, filled in their entry to Burke’s Peerage incorrectly. I believe that Fenella did not do this out of spite, she was over 74 at the time and died 3 years later. In 1963, Fenella was described to family members as a vague person.
Nerissa passed away in 1986. In 1987, the British media began to report on them, but it was soon forgotten, this happened again in the early 2000s. Katherine passed away in 2014.
In 2011, Channel 4 produced and documentary on Nerissa & Katherine called: “The Queen’s Hidden Cousins”. The documentary contained SEVERAL lies about their lives and accused their father of never having visited them, but if you paid attention to thread, their father DIED in 1930.
Lady Elizabeth Shakerley, who died recently, was the daughter of Princess Anne of Denmark, sister of Nerissa and Katherine. Lady Elizabeth made comments on the documentary: "I thought it was such an unfair thing to do to the Queen, and I know she was very hurt about it,”
Lady Elizabeth added to the Telegraph that she thinks the Queen did not watch the documentary, but said she did: “I watched it and I was horrified. I was dreading it as soon as I found out they were making the program, ”
Lady Elizabeth told the Telegraph that the documentary was "an intrusion of privacy" and also accused Channel 4 of: “capitalizing on the royal connection and ignoring the facts, as the sisters have always been looked after by that family”.
Lady Elizabeth also said that Nerissa and Katherine have always received regular visits.
