Okay, let's talk about one of these Democrats crying in the pages of the New York Times about people saying the words "socialism" and "defund the police." Vicente Gonzalez for Congress! A thread.
Good ol' Vicente over here has a pretty interesting FEC report! The biggest single expenditure on his report is a repayment of a $250K loan that the candidate made to himself! That repayment was ONE THIRD of his total expenditures this year. (cnt'd) cc @AOC
His next two biggest expenses were credit card service fees.
His fourth biggest expense was paying fundraising consultants.
Then a staff salary.
Then polling.
Then another staff salary.
Then a law firm.
Then rent.
Every expense from here down is 10k or below.

He paid 8k to AKPD Message and Media, a political and media consulting firm formerly known as Axelrod and Associates, which employs a bunch of Obama-era big names.
He ended the campaign with 1.4 MILLION cash on hand!

*Takes a deep breath*
MAYBE THE FACT THAT YOU LOST TEN POINTS AT THE POLLS IS RELATED TO THE FACT THAT YOU DIDN'T CAMPAIGN THIS YEAR, A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR

The last presidential election year Gonzalez campaigned in, 2016, he spent $2.3 million!
That year, he paid $172K to an ad/consulting firm, $67K to a political/exec coaching service, $64K to a print shop, about $74K to Solidarity Strategies, etc. In other words, he TRIED.

So maybe! Just maybe! Gonzalez's problem is he decided the most important thing for him to do was to repay himself half the loan he made to his campaign a couple cycles ago and end with a cash-on-hand total double the size of his actual campaign spending.
You think?
You think?
"I had to fight to explain all that"
LOLOLOLOL
HE FOUGHT LOLOLOLOL
LOLOLOLOL
HE FOUGHT LOLOLOLOL
Guess how much he spent on Facebook ads?
C'mon, just guess.
C'mon, just guess.
Vicente Gonzalez spent $18k on Facebook ads over the entirety of the cycle, about 1/10 what folks like @AOC who do a great job at this suggest that you spend. And it would have been a relative drop in the bucket to hit $200k compared to his cash on hand at the end of the race!
I took a gander at his opponent's ads.
The word "socialism" appeared in Facebook placements once. She doesn't mention it in her radio ad.
What does she talk about?
Liberals
Abortion
"illegal immigration"
2nd amendment

More context:
The NYT story correctly notes Gonzalez did 10 points better last cycle.
Left out: ...the opponent last cycle spent $23,000. Total.
