Why the NBA Vetoing the Chris Paul trade was a bad decision for both sides

a thread
The original package: Here’s a visual representation of the original trade package & the one they ended up accepting from the clippers below. The original one seems like a decent enough value for all 3 teams & i guess it was since they all accepted it.
Why they vetoed the trade. The reason originally said for why the trade was vetoed was for “basketball reasons” but the real reason for vetoing it was due to immense pushback from small market owners disliking the big market Lakers acquiring superstar CP3 to create a superteam
How it affected the Lakers 1/3, This affected the Lakers the hardest since after the trade was vetoed, their chemistry was shot and left players like Lamar Odom feeling betrayed & resulting in those players being traded for practically no value in return
2/3, The Lakers definitely would’ve contended for at least 3 more years and alongside a Dwight trade would’ve allowed them to be a playoff team since CP3 has a history of playing well alongside bigs. This also would’ve allowed Kobe to rest more & stay healthy for a little longer
3/3 Depending on if the Lakers can supply him with talent and keep him happy, this trade def could’ve kept CP3 in LA for a while for a potential CP3+LeBron duo?, Either way, this veto setback the Lakers for 6 years, potentially even longer if LeBron decided not to come in 2018
How it would’ve affected the NBA itself 1/2: Like i mentioned earlier, this trade would’ve allowed the Lakers to contend longer but this trade also would’ve given us at least one LA vs MIA finals & would’ve made the NBA millions in a legendary LeBron vs Kobe finals
2/2 The trade the NBA ended up accepted was terrible in hindsight, Eric Gordon sustained injuries & the role players they got were never as good as players like Goran Dragic, and if they didn’t luck out and snag AD, their org would’ve also been setback by a few years as well
This is the end of the thread! Thanks for reading it
