If House and Senate Dems are out of the question for appointments, you’ve gotta think Dem governors with Dem LtGs are in prime position for big poses. Otherwise you’re looking at government-by-lobbyist.
I doubt Newsom would take a gig. Polis, Lamont, and Carney are maybes - the latter two should but who knows? Ige gets you nothing and kicks the hornet’s nest of HI politics. Pritzker probably says no too - maybe Penny takes her old job instead?
Kelly and Beshear would be crazy to say no, but Kelly is incompetent and Beshear is literally the only Dem hope in KY. Edwards’s LT is a Republican, so he’s out. You could take Mills, but that might put ME state senate in a tight spot - esp w redistricting and gop gains in ‘22.
Whitmer and Walz would both take cabinet gigs, but their state parties will be furious. Ditto Evers, but who wants him? Bullock is a spent force, but his judgment as Gov is suspect and you’d be worried about scandal. Sisolak and Murphy are fine. Cooper’s LT is a GOPer.
I doubt Cuomo would take anything but a plum posting - plus he’s a dead-eyed psychopath. OR goes to SOS - a GOPer - so Brown is out. Wolf’s successor is Fetterman, so it’s a consideration. Gina Raimondo is, well, that’s a separate thread. She’ll probably get a gig.
A correction here. That could make Brown a compelling cabinet pick. https://twitter.com/myster_e_23/status/1328161576201842689
A couple of people have mentioned GOP Govs. Limiting it only to current Govs: I don’t see Hogan doing it, esp if he’s seriously considering running in 24. Baker is a no because MA has no term limits. Is Joe really gonna nominate Phil Scott and not Bernie? I don’t see it.
