A very old pear tree blew down on my island this weekend. Because I don't know that @Kwiaht has this variety in our collection yet I cut a scion for grafting (it was an old tree with very little young wood) 1/
I posted about my plan to graft the variety on a community FB page, and since then I have heard from so many old island families about grafting old varieties for them! 2/
I'm really sorry that the old tree came down; and I'm very excited about being able to propagate old island varieties for the descendants of the folks who planted (or picked) them. 3/
One of the folks who contacted me is planning to establish a heritage orchard on the island with cuttings from the old homesteads and asked for help. Having these varieties backed up outside of @Kwiaht's research garden (and/or my yard) will be amazing! 4/4
