1/ The Minister @DarraghOBrienTD states he has “some concerns” about the proposal for @DubCityCouncil cllrs to vote in favour of the construction of 853 residential units tonight. What is the Minister hinting at us to do? #oscartraynor https://twitter.com/naoiseomuiri/status/1328109382375247872
2/ The former Lord Mayor and now TD @PaulMcauliffe is also expressing his concerns. https://twitter.com/paulmcauliffe/status/1328281021821947906
3/ It feels like councillors are being setup once again for a repeat of last years O’Devaney Gardens debacle. https://twitter.com/geoghegancllr/status/1192190694443667457
4/ Based on public statements already made by councillors other than @FineGael there is no majority tonight to support the proposal to construct 853 homes by the successful bidder of a procurement process that began in January 2017. A vote of the council started that process.
6/ A majority of votes was found for O’Devaney Gardens as the winning bidder said they would be happy to sell 140 homes to an approved housing body for cost rental purposes. Manufacturered as a ‘new deal’, there was no funding for an approved housing body to purchase the homes.
8/ If the Housing Minister, his party TDs and councillors are going to join @sinnfeinireland in opposing the construction of 853 new homes when @DubCityCouncil estimate a 5 year delay to these homes being built, councillors need to be told what the alternative plan is?
9/ There can only be three alternatives:

1️⃣ No homes are built.

2️⃣ Approved housing body will be funded by @DarraghOBrienTD to acquire some of the 428 private units.

3️⃣ The @LDA_Ireland will buy the site and develop homes themselves.
10/ If 2️⃣ or 3️⃣ is proposed, why are councillors being left in the dark, only bringing further delay to the building of homes when they are so urgently needed? If the @LDA_Ireland is going to develop the site, what is the cost difference and when will they be built?
11/ Public housing on public lands is a simple slogan that in no way recognises that @DubCityCouncil has no capacity, experience or sufficient economies of scale to develop 800+ units at value for money and time.
12/ We now have a state agency that does/will have that experience/capacity in the @LDA_Ireland, but speed of delivery and value for money can’t be jettisoned just because of a political dislike for private development.
13/ Every one of our housing crises are supply related. Homelessness, social housing and affordable housing. We have an opportunity tonight to positively increase the stock of housing by over 800 but instead it looks like we’re facing more delays and more debate.
