I’m gonna lose my mind if I see one more “I worked during college so my loans are paid off.”

I had three jobs and my money went directly to my rent, utilities, car insurance, gas, food, and books. That’s how it works when you make minimum wage.
We didn’t use heat in our house because we were all so poor. We could see our own breath when we woke up in the morning. Also, one job was at a coffee shop so save the tired “stop buying coffee” argument (it was free). And look at that, I still have a ton of student debt!!
Could I have made some smarter decisions? I'm sure I could have! But guess what? My high school and college didn't require economics and no one taught me about interest or budgeting! I filled out a FAFSA when I was 18 and accepted the maximum because I thought I had to.
We are forced to make decisions because we are desperate and uneducated. That is not our fault.
After college, I followed my dream and moved to SF where I deferred my loans for ~4 years because no one pays a living wage in that city. I took an hour long bus-ride to work every day because in order for rent to be affordable, I had to live far away.
We are in this situation for a number of reasons, but if we aren't going to fix all of the other ones, cancelling student debt is the only option.
So many recent graduates are doing everything they possibly can to stay afloat. It's completely insane to assume they aren't working hard enough.
