No one should be detained in unsafe conditions during a Global pandemic. Prisons should not sign contracts with ICE that terrorize our communities. We demand better and cannot believe our Comrade Juan has been detained since May and threatened with deportation. #JuanCantWait
Juan is a 19-year-old Delaware County resident and immigrant from Guatemala who is a provider for his family. Juan has been in prison for 6 months and counting.
On May 30, 2020, Juan was spotted by the police near 69th Street Plaza during a protest against George Floyd’s murder and police brutality, and he was swept up along with several people nearby with made-up charges.
Juan remains in police custody, awaiting trials and threatened by ICE with further detention and potential deportation. We stand firmly against arbitrary treatment in the criminal justice system.
Our Justice system states that we are all innocent until proven guilty. So why is our community still being detained, and why do the conditions show such a blatant disregard for him. He is 19 and has his whole life ahead of him. Why is he being criminalized?
The arrest and subsequent charges are fabricated and the damage the lives of immigrants in our country. Any move to detain and deport Juan back in the middle of the pandemic is a VIOLATION of basic human rights. This will not stand.
WE DEMAND THAT THE Delaware County District Attorney @JackForDelco drop the charges against Juan and take necessary action to reunite him with his family!
Comrades the time to act is NOW. Tweet at @JackforDelco and @rouseforpa DEMANDING ACTION NOW! #JuanCantWait #BringJuanHome #HomeForTheHolidays
