I'm grateful for this, and it's what I suspected. I know many people at the IMB, and I don't think they or Paul Chitwood want to take the organization woke. I'm sorry if that doesn't appease those who just want to tear everything down. Still, these issues must be addressed. 1/ https://twitter.com/tomascol/status/1328411353246281732
If the IMB says they are no longer using this flawed language, then that is a concession that the criticism was *fair*. So let's be men about it and say that was good to point out, let's fix it. This wasn't an issue found far in the past, this was recent. Language matters. 2/
But I've seen a lot of people instead mad at or dismissive of the ones who pointed out the problem. If the IMB admits it was a problem, that means the ones who pointed it out were right to do so. This is a reminder we need to be on guard. That language came from somewhere. 3/
It's a valid question to ask where that language came from. We have to start doing better. Language has the power to shape, direct, and change culture. We must learn to use language to our advantage. Too often conservatives lose by adopting the language of our enemies. 4/
Unfortunately, we're at the point where there is good reason to be overly cautious about critical theory and leftism infecting any organization. I have no trust in those with the instinct to downplay every concern. They are moderates on their way to liberalism. 5/
I don't think the IMB on the whole wants to go woke. I *do* think there are people who want the IMB, and every evangelical org, to go woke. Some are naive, many are duplicitous. These people have to be defeated, they won't go away on their own. There is much evidence for this. 6/
There is a forceful push towards leftism and egal in our culture and orgs. Anyone not pushing against that will be pulled along with it. Stop dismissing every concern and saying all is fine. Discernment ministries only thrive because org leaders and pastors won't stand up. /fn
