At @GermanyDiplo @FightExtremism intl conf “Transnational violent right-wing extremism & terrorism – threat landscape & policy responses,” ASG Coninsx said MS have repeatedly warned @UN_CTED of evolving challenge of extreme right-wing or racially & ethnically motivated terrorism.
Earlier this year, @UN_CTED published two Trends Alerts focused on countering #extremeright #terrorism. These publications drew on the #CTC's country assessment reports as well as our #GRN.

The #CTC briefing & @UN_CTED's ongoing work on this topic, has highlighted a number of key trends.

1. Extreme right-wing terrorist groups and individuals are increasingly connected transnationally, including in the provision of financial and operational support.
2. They continue to be sophisticated in their use of the Internet, for recruitment and radicalization purposes, as well as to share plans and manifestos and to “livestream” their attacks.
3. Extreme right-wing terrorism has significant gender dimensions.

Misogyny and violence against women are often central to its ideology and practised by the men who espouse it.

And the roles of women within the movement continue to evolve.
4. Extreme right-wing groups and individuals have also sought to co-opt the COVID-19 pandemic, using scientifically and factually baseless conspiracy theories in an attempt to radicalize, recruit, and inspire plots and attacks.
ASG Coninsx said only by developing multilateral and whole-of-society partnerships that leverage that experience, promote the sharing of lessons learned, and the identification of good practices will we be able to mount an effective response.
