*rubbing temples* I think that... spending my teenage years on tumblr was more helpful then hurtful... I am as surprised by this realization as anyone would be
Being highly critical of media was good and taught me to be more aware of things and ready to pick apart an underlying message, think about who is the the butt of the joke, etc
It was not good to be so black and white like canceling a piece of media for botching an oppression metaphor or having a bad joke and unfollowing fans and shit
But learning how to be critical of media helped me also be critical of news media and politicians. Listening for the underlying messages and thinking about intention and who is being hurt but what's being said. It's a good skill! Critical thinking!
Somewhere along the way I picked up nuance which is what I lacked as tumblr teen. I think a lot of that comes naturally from having life experiences and realizing good people can do harm and nothing is as simple as good and evil
