I won't get to see my family back in my country of birth for the foreseeable future. So, here's a wee thread with places in Portugal that are special to me, and which I hope to return to ASAP.

Next we have Tavira, the closest city to Santa Luzia, and the place where I went to high school. It's been inhabited by different cultures and peoples, has wonderful food, and there are also flamingos to be seen along its salt works (Salinas).
The city of Faro, where I was born. Again, right on the edge of the sea and a strong connection to maritime living, even though tourism is now one of its main industries.
Its name comes from the Arabic "Al-Harun", a dynasty that ruled it during the Al-Andalus period.

Vilamoura, probably the poshest place I have ever lived in, even though it's far from being all-posh. It's famous for its enormous marina and the quality of its many golf courses, one of them named "The Old Course", after the very one in St Andrews.
Oh Lisbon, my beloved Lisbon. The city I lived in for five years when I went to university. There, I grew from teenager to man, came out as gay, and met the lovely guy that I'm now married to. It is an amazing European capital, with so much life during both day & night.
Finally, a special mention to my favourite place in the whole of Portugal: Sintra. There is something so magical about it, and I now like to say that, in a way, there's something about it that feels similar to Scotland. No wonder I loved it more than any other place.
I might not be able to visit these places for some time, and all the friends & family there that I miss dearly, but the good memories shall keep me looking forward to when that becomes safe to do again.
Meanwhile, I'm thankful to live in such an amazing country as Scotland
