We’ve had some great news on early vaccine data that promises much needed help with #COVID. But we have one more valley to cross together before those can be helpful, and there’s more to do. Here goes:

THREAD
Not trying to preach, but I don’t know what else to do as we are losing ground to COVID 🦠everywhere and people seem paralyzed. If you’ve silently struggled with knowing what’s real and what’s not about COVID, but you trust me, please listen:
It’s getting colder out these days, and as people spend more time inside, our case rates are exploding💥.
Think of COVID spreading indoors like cigarette smoke 🌬, only you can’t smell it. It’s there, and the longer you’re exposed indoors without everyone wearing masks, the higher the odds you’re getting it.
Being six feet apart without masks on DOES NOT matter indoors in most homes, offices, and normal sized rooms in the presence of a spreader. If you were sitting 30 feet away from someone smoking inside, you’d smell it. Same thing. 🙊
It’s all about using masks to trap virus 🗣, reducing how much you inhale, and how often the air in the room gets turned over from ventilation.

Wear masks 😷 around anyone who doesn’t live with you in your household. If you have to be inside, open a lot of windows.
Opening windows and creating cross-ventilation 💨 will help reduce risk a lot, and if you have to be indoors with other people you don’t live with, open windows. Even as it gets colder, you have to do it. If it’s too cold to do this, you need to just avoid that situation.
It is NOT safe to eat or socialize inside of enclosed restaurants, bars, or homes with people if you are not certain they don’t have COVID. This is still true at Thanksgiving. 🦃 That sucks, but losing friends and loved ones around Christmas will be worse.
Remember, people can spread COVID 🦠 when they don’t have symptoms, and it’s nearly impossible to know someone has been exposed before they have spread it. 🦠🦠🦠
Just because someone is in your family doesn’t mean they don’t have COVID. Trusting someone couldn’t have COVID isn’t good enough. As someone said aptly earlier today, “COVID hitches a ride on ‘trust’.”
We are doing better treating COVID cases for sure. 🥼 But it’s still a numbers game, and exponential math is almost incomprehensibly powerful. People are dying from COVID infections, and based on case rates from the last two weeks, the numbers are about to get way worse. 📈
Compounding this, additional people will die from things they should beat because our healthcare system is being overwhelmed managing COVID cases.
We will all have to do our part at least until Spring-Summer of 2021 when I’d expect good vaccines 💉 will be widely available. Hang in there. 🙏
