Decentralize your boss (thread):
1/

🤔Why?

In a job you are one client away from ruin.

Apart from exchanging time for a salary, there are many other trade-offs.

If the work culture isn't good, there are troubles with mental and physical health.
2/

You are exchanging time for money, time is the only finite resource every organism has.

If work is the most important part, why not do work that works for YOU.
3/

How?

Decentralize your boss is a call to action to serve a group of individuals, that way you can de-risk yourself.

The transition from a central boss to a decentralized boss isn't easy, but has a long term return.
4/

@nathanbarry best described trade-off/return models:

1. Exchanging your time for a variable problem: Job

2. Exchanging others time for a variable problem: Agency

3. Leveraging time for a fixed problem: Productized service

4. Leveraging mind for a fixed problem: Product
5/

What should I do?

1. Pick an audience you feel would be there in the long term. I'm talking 5 years.

2. Build friend catchers to build connections with these people.

3. Serve an audience which can pay.

4. Solve a problem specific to this audience.

Easier said than done.
6/

If you jump head first, there are risks in transitioning from a central boss to a decentralized boss:

1. Time

2. Finance

3. Mental health
7/

Initially, this system will not take off as you hoped.

The process you have in mind will not turn out as you hoped.

Unless you have first hand experience of talking with customers and being comfortable in that zone it'll be an uphill battle for a while.
8/

How can I mitigate the risks in each area?

⌛️ Time: Lists are helpful. Pick 3 targets for the day. Accomplish it. Writing provides awareness on what is to
be done.

đź’° Finance: Keep some savings and lower your spending. May differ based on country, living conditions.
9/

🧠Mental health: Read about psychology, philosophy. Knowing how the mind works is useful in situations like these where your inputs and outputs won't be in alignment.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Above all, pick an audience which you'd find it meaningful to serve.
10/

Another way to mitigate the time and mental health risks before diving into this transition is by doing this as a side project, although I can't advice on that since I'm not doing that myself.
11/

Alternatively:

You can build a hybrid ladder where you can offer a product, productized service and consulting.

Serving various groups in the same audience.

Exchanging more value, for more money.
