It was brought to my attention that someone on Twitter has been DMing people who showed interest in commissioning art and used my art as commission examples to scam people out of their money.

In this case it's a repeat offender in @itsclairellow who has done similar things before. The one case I have been notified of has been now refunded.
Blame should never lay on the victims, but here are some things to check before diving into a commission:

- does the person you are interested in commissioning have a social media presence? Do the contact infos they gave you line up with the contact info on these social media sites?
- are the references they showed inconsistent with the rest of the art on their profiles?

- ask for an invoice! Invoices have not only legal information but also serve as a record of the transaction in case the seller is not delivering what they promised
All these things are of course not failsafe. But they might throw up a couple of red flags.
