the real reason pitchfork is irrelevant isnt that they badly review yr prestige artist of choice or whatever, its that the most listened to song of the last decade globally is objectively like,,, The Chainsmokers - Don't Let Me Down Nightcore
this is my same issue with anthony fantano, his initial fanbase was just by being a amplifier for /mu/, shilling whatever their artist of choice was, providing the youtube algorythm a gateway to death grips and swans, he was never interesting for his own opinions
the real magic of anthony fantano was that you click on his video and it has death grips on the title and then the youtube algorythm shows u a bunch of death grips songs, he was a gateway to /mu/ charts for ppl who didnt browse it (redditors), his appeal totally dissapeared when-
he started trying to have his own opinions. pitchfork was good when it was a spokesperson for an irl scene of indie brooklynite whatever ppl, when it started inventing its own opinions it also started to Suck
both groups of ppl these publications provided access to the taste of objectively Sucked and their cultures revolved around self important faux-exclusivity, the reviewers amplified and then erased (by invitation of outsiders) the respective scenes
