Dreher is very invested in his Benedict Option. The BO, by definition, means that political victories are no match for the Left's recent culture war victories. So winning elections is not a big deal. He and other Christians will take the BO and that's that.
And yeah, culture definitely trumps politics. Culture feeds our politics.
But political victories are not to be trifled away because "OMFG the Left will get mad if we try to win!!!"

If nothing else, he stemmed the tide of Christians being fucked with by the feds for the crime of being Christian. A political victory improved the situation for people of faith.
Obviously, one presidential election win is not enough to stop the anti-Christian wave happening in America. That's where good people of faith have to put in the work in the culture.
You'd think Dreher would acknowledge the positive aspects Trump's 2016 win had for Christians. You'd think he'd be able to see why Trump winning in 2020 would be good for Christians.
But no, dude just throws up his hands and says, 'fuck it, whatevs, Christians better hunker down."
