/ I think many here on twitter have posted really useful information and are data driven. Helping all of us understand what’s happening re Covid19 in Ireland and around the world.
/ There are I think legitimate questions being asked about the data behind level 5, maybe level 3 was working. There is talk of conspiracies, of false positive tests %s etc. But can I put a few questions out. I don’t expect all the answers, but I’m trying to see things simply.
/ I assume nphet’s desire is to keep cases low. Low case numbers means low risk of significant outbreaks. I assume that is their motivation. There are no winners at all with lockdowns and the economic devastation.
/ Hence I cannot understand what other motivation they could have for the severity of measures they are taking. Their recommendations they must know are hugely unpopular, puts them in the firing line with politicians and the public. Hence what’s in it for them.
/ It can only be to try and protect health and prevent a surge. Now anyone who has read my threads before know that I am more or equally concerned about all the other non Covid health issues
/ Every single patient I have seen this month is suffering majorly with mental anguish, depression, anxiety, loneliness, isolation, anger, resentment, fear of the loss of the limited time they may have left, sadness, and pain.
/ There may be debate about the mathematical models NPHET are using and a building suspicion about why they aren’t published or subject to debate.
/ I sense deepening distrust and apathy among people perhaps owing to the building swell of opinion about the lack engagement about the questions being asked.
/ I don’t really think the “casedemic” or “false positive cases” will stand up to scrutiny ( my opinion only). There are really good data posted on twitter, all of which is very convincing, well put together, seemingly evidence based but... and maybe I’m being stupid.
/ .. but in my opinion the pandemic is clearly still having a major effect in many countries, hence is it not premature to suggest the pandemic is over ? Is it not a high risk position to take that the pandemic is over and that the only thing we are detecting is false positives
/ I fully disagree with lockdowns and the fear mongering approach. Neither work and clearly the current “level 5” behaviour is testament to the fact the no one is really abiding by the “rules” anymore.
/ Hence rather than suggest it’s all a casedemic problem or talk of conspiracy theories, we must move to suggest a better approach to not ending up like Europe or the USA, but yet open up our economy again safely.
