A recent survey of nearly 20,000 students at 55 colleges regarding free speech on campus was commissioned by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE).
When asked “Have you personally ever felt you could not express your opinion on a subject because of how students, a professor, or the administration would respond?” a whopping 60% said yes.
With 3 of 5 college students experiencing intellectual and speech intimidation and suppression, it's no wonder why cases of depression and anxiety on college campuses are spiking to levels we've never seen before.
University administrators and leaders must take note of these types of surveys and begin putting in place policies that protect every students right to free speech, thought and expression.
