I'm sure I did this in the past but there are so many people using the arguement that the uk only have 12,000 fishermen so not worth saving. 25 years ago we had 4x that and let me try and show you how many jobs it creates onshore with an example of the support work from a boat /1
Let's take a 50 ft trawler with a crew of 6 men.
They have an office to do all the paperwork with 20 bodies.
Also to go to sea you are supplied by grocers, bakers, butchers, duty free guys gals let's say 10 more people.
You also have ships Chandler's who supply gloves, knives all /2
Forms of protective clothing and equipment to repair problems at sea . Let's say 5 more people.
Then netmakers , box suppliers, ice factories, fuel suppliers, water suppliers, marine engineers, telecoms experts, computer experts who service all the equipment needed to fish /3
Another 30-40 people at least.
Then you have the industry once you land .
The fish markets, buyers ,sellers, processors, lorry drivers ,restaurants, fish mongers, the lady who owns the market cafe the young lads who work as lumpers and the relief crews and colleges who train /4
The crews and skippers. Then you have the shops and finally the customers literally 100s of people who rely on the sea but lost jobs in the past due to decline .
There is huge potential here for growth .
Support our fishermen 👍👍
