What's the least expensive, but tasty, satisfying and nutritious meal that you've cooked? Ingredients and cost?
A lot of people are very short on cash right now. What hints for meals can you give?

My go-to used to be a pot of beans cooked with a slice of bacon, rice toasted before adding the water and tortillas.
You can still get all the ingredients, including a jalapeno pepper for seasoning for less than $15 to make enough for several meals for 4 or 5 people.

Flour, yeast and baking powder are meal-time miracles, too.
With baking powder, eggs, water or milk, butter or oil, and salt. you get biscuits, pancakes, tortillas. A simple loaf of bread is just water, yeast, oil or butter, salt and flour.
Satisfying additions to a meal.

The Internet is awash with bread recipes, and with a little practice, breads are surprisingly easy.
They're also dirt cheap. A pan of homemade cinnamon rolls big enough for 4 or 5 people to have a couple of servings, cost less than $3 to make and taste better than you can buy.

A boring meal can be given life with a yummy desert. Eggs, sugar, flour or cornstarch, plus flavoring can make an inexpensive pudding that isn't just empty calories.
Add bananas and vanilla wafers to the above for a banana pudding that everyone will love.

Popcorn! Because it tastes good and not having a bunch of money to spend shouldn't mean that you have to give up snacks. Don't be tempted by pre-popped or microwave bags that seem cheap, go for the stuff you pop yourself.
Hint: When popped w/peanut oil, no salt or butter needed.

The money-saving food tip that I think is most important is: Prepared foods usually aren't cheaper.
A can of beans that yields two servings for $1 seems like a bargain until you compare it to 5 lbs of dry beans that will give you 50 or more servings.
Extra prep time saves $$$.

Grabbing staples like flour, baking power, yeast, oil, tomato paste, rice, beans, nut butter, spices, etc. when you find them on sell and can spare the $$, will mean that, when dollars are especially short, your cupboard is a treasure trove of potential.
Bagged apples are often $1 lb. or less. Eat them plain. Eat sliced with peanut butter.

Dice the peeled fruit and add to ground beef, chicken or turkey dishes.
Slice it, add sugar and cinnamon and cook in a covered sauce pan to top pancakes or fill a pie. Line a casserole dish with it and cover thinly with biscuit dough.

Don't forget tech. Google has a billion recipes and YouTube has almost as many with the happy addition of letting you watch an expert prepare the dish.
