An early idea for my undergrad dissertation was a political history of Esperanto in Ireland. I dropped it due to a dearth of relevant sources, but there's a part of my brain permanently reserved for Irish Esperanto facts.
You can find a minor undercurrent in early 20th century Irish nationalism discussing how learning Esperanto could decolonise language in Ireland. The idea was that everyone in Ireland would learn Irish as first language and relate to the wider world through Esperanto, not English
