they would share a bed before they started dating, starting off with excuses like “the movie was so boring i fell asleep shittykawa” or “iwa-channn, i can’t believe you’re gonna make me take the floor!”
eventually they mutually accepted it was just comfier in each other’s arms and stopped making excuses when they dozed off after practice in iwa’s room
when oikawa realises what he feels is no longer (and never really was) platonic. he Freaks Out.
he’s also stupid as fuck, so doesn’t for one moment consider iwaizumi feels the same way towards him, which results in a couple of weeks of Fratboy!Oikawa™
think oikawa being aggressively straight, calling iwa ‘bro’ and ‘dude’ and asking him if he’s interested in any ‘birds’
iwa confronts him about it when oikawa offers to sleep on the floor because that hasn’t happened since they were actual children, and they share their first kiss through tears and smiles and fall asleep wrapped in each other’s arms
when they finally start dating it’s a little weird, because the cuddles are no longer platonic and should they have different rules? but after a week of oikawa complaining, their routine goes back to normal
except now they make out sometimes lol
it gets to a point neither of them can sleep without being next to the other, so when they graduate from aoba johsai it’s only logical for them to start renting an apartment together
this is when iwaizumi discovers what a Pain oikawa is to sleep next to on a regular basis
this includes, but is not limited to:
tooru flat-out refusing to get out of bed unless: (a) it’s after 11 a.m., (b) there’s already coffee ready and waiting for him, and if neither of those things are true, he’s not shy about telling iwa to fuck off in a sleepy, muffled, yet dangerous, tone
twisting and writhing in his sleep and nearly always jabbing iwaizumi with his pointy elbows
taking up the Entire sheet and clenching on for dear life when iwa tries to pry it out of his arms
wedging his ice-cold toes between iwaizumi’s thighs in the middle of the night, even though iwa repeatedly tells him to just wear socks to bed
he always kisses iwa when he wakes, even though his morning breath is disgusting
all of these drive iwaizumi nuts, but none of them matter when he can fall asleep next to the love of his life.
plus not everything tooru does is annoying-
his favourite position to fall asleep is with his head nestled on iwa’s chest, legs tucked up to his stomach, iwa gently running his fingers through his hair
he will quietly hum love songs in iwaizumi’s ear as they’re drifting off together
it’s rare for them to wake up not entangled together in some way
and yeah. he always kisses iwa when he wakes, even though his morning breath is disgusting
