I’m at @StPetePD, where Chief Anthony Holloway will address the media for the first time since yesterday’s shooting that left one of his officers wounded and a 20-year-old man, who is accused of shooting the officer, dead. Mayor @Kriseman will also speak.
Kriseman starts by saying the progress the city has made toward improving relations between police and community is “hollow” after an incident like this.

“Nobody wants to hear about progress when one person is in the hospital, and another person is in the morgue.”
Holloway asks for calm. “Wait for the facts to come out.” Emphasizes the Pinellas use-of-force task force is investigating.
Says the officer who was shot is a veteran detective who was sticking around to help train other officers.
The victim of the child abuse Harris is accused of was at a basketball court in the city, Holloway says. Harris picked the child up, threw him down. Child wasn’t involved in bball game. He was taken to hospital and had bruised ribs. The parents wanted to press charges.
Holloway reiterates he has no say-so on the investigation, under the structure of the UoF task force. He reminds the public (with prompting by @Kriseman) the task force “is what the community asked for.”
Now at news conference no. 2, this one by @SheriffPinellas Bob Gualtieri, who is overseeing the use of deadly force investigative task force investigation. He is speaking alongside this photo of what appears to be a gun on a car seat.
Gualtieri starts off by reminding everyone the task force is investigating whether the shooting is a criminal homicide or was justified under the law.
Oh this is new. Sheriff says Dominique Harris was a person of interest in a September homicide. He was also known to carry firearms and flee from police, sheriff says. Gualtieri described the child abuse situation as Harris "beating the kid (15-year-old)" at a park.
Gualtieri now going over Harris' criminal history. Points out he was monitored by a prolific offender program.
