also i'm deeply torn between not wanting characters i love to suffer tons of trauma and my knowledge of what kind of show it is with my sadness that they very probably are just... not gonna deal with the thing? like they're just... not gonna.

i wrote 25,000 words that are almost entirely him dealing with it in just one fic! i'm obviously very interested in it!
and i get that the show is not really that kind of show but at the same time... i still want it. among other things, yeah, but also it.

they honestly don't even need to deal with the specific thing as much as the general 'upended a major portion of his life in response to a traumatic event and left his best friend crying on the sidewalk to disappear for a while' thing, and i don't think they're going to.
i just... him popping up as smug bastard barba to play defense attorney every once and a while is fine? i love that smug bastard, but i worry we won't get any of the other barbas, who i also love.
and this is independent of any shipping concerns. those obviously will also influence how i feel about his overall return depending on how it goes. but there are things i'm still interested in seeing from him as a character and i worry we'll see exactly one of them over and over.
and i have not trusted a tv writer in literal years now, so like... this is just how i am and why i write fic, but writing fic can get less and less fun if the writers just start to bomb out a character so an actor can make guest appearances.
