I’ve watched yesterday’s game over again, like I usually do and I always break down the game from a tactical point of view with my buddy(Milan fan but he’s a good guy). I haven’t seen him cause I’m currently sick at home, so I’m gonna throw my opinion at you guys.
Started off shaky, but I feel like the opening 10 mins for Roma is always like that. I’d even say the opening 20. Defence was solid, I’ll be honest. JJ sucks, but he is deceptively quick and I feel like that’s ignored a lot, he does enough to be granted more minutes
Especially against smaller sides. Honestly. Cristante; I have never bashed him, and I never will. I’ve always been patient when judging people and what not. In saying that, cristante is a man that’ll forever puzzle me. Great ball playing CB, but he’s not a CB
Yet I trust him to put in a sure tackle or a tactical foul almost the most on our squad(aside from Smalling) but I’m torn with idea that he could actually offer something as like an attacking mid(his days on Atalanta, if I remember correctly he played as that)
Decent enough passing, good work ethic, and I would argue a prettt decent shot while also having a physical body presence to bully other people around. All in all, Cristante for me was always a guy that did well, no complaints.
Ibanez is Marquinhos 2.0, but not as defensively aware as him(positioning, and when to tackle) but that comes with time. Sad reality is; don’t get too comfortable with him. Bruno Peres did well again, still adamant on getting a proper RWB(I’m sorry)
Pedro can do everything but lacks a finishing ability(I don’t think he’s ever had a great shooting ability tbh). Arguably has the highest IQ on this team, closest control, and Hawkeye vision, but I’d just say his ability to finish.
Carlos Perez.. eh.. he played. He played well. Really would like to see him grow tbh. I feel like Kluivert has a higher ceiling than him. Borja Mayoral, buddy this man is getting his own tweet or two. This was Roma’s beautiful signing(in my eyes) I was super excited
About this signing from the jump. My buddy described him to me before we got him, as a mobile Dzeko, but young. That has stood out in my head and it’s imprinted. When he’s on the field, the attack changes. It goes from long balls, switching the pitch, crossing it into the near
To, tight triangles, 1-2’s, 1v1 situations, and I’d honestly say there’s something ferocious in the attack when he’s there. Has a wicked shot, so much accuracy in it, if somebody could find me a stat on his shot accuracy this season, I feel like it’s high 80’s.
Very solid player and I hope Roma keeps him. Villar and Diawara is a very interesting dynamic that I’d be very curious to see again. Both composed in possession, both have good vision, both could slow the play down and hold onto it well. Diawara offering more in D than
Villar, but he could grow into that and develop a defensive touch. My only issue with those two though; lack of creativity in the middle. I love a midfielder that breaks between the lines. Pellegrini does it well, same with Veretout. That’s why
They work well together. Where as Diawara and Villar don’t always do that. Creativity comes more from Pedro, Mayoral & WB. Villar I think has the ability but he’s still growing into the role. Diawara needs to grow into a little bit more and add something to his game.
Again I’m not putting them down, but when playing with two CM’s; you need to have two well rounded players. Or ones that compliment each other. So Pellegrini with Diawara, or Veretout with Diawara, magnificent. One is more defensive which gives the other freedom
To roam around the final third and break through the lines. If it was the double pivot. Welllll we all saw what Diawara is capable of lol. Calafiori, what a god damn talent. Dedicating the goal to De Rossi was nothing short of beautiful to me too
Now that he’s fit I’d like to see more of him. Hell I’d push Spina into the front 3 and Cala as the LWB sometimes. Great defensive ability, still a little eager but he’s young. Mino Raiola has a god damn eye for talent man.
