Not all mentor/mentee relationships are made equal.
Like any other relationship, not all mentors and mentees are compatible.
For the mentee, not every relationship with a mentor will end up being net positive.
This could be due to personality, timing, openness to learn, level of maturity etc.

For the mentor, the same applies.
They may not always have the tools, perspective or network to be able to offer what the mentee needs most at that particular time.

The opposite could also be true:
The potential upside of a long lasting and fruitful mentor mentee relationship is HUGE. Sometimes life changing.

Sometimes (as a person seeking mentorship) it takes a process of elimination to find the right one(s)
This doesn’t mean that criticism is to be levelled at anyone, sometimes it just doesn’t work out and that’s no one’s fault.

But if you’re someone in need of mentorship guidance, the point is to engage in the ‘seeking’ process.
You won’t know what benefits lie in the relationship until you go through it. The worst case scenario is that you learn what to look for in a mentor next time, so its win - win
