Their bewilderment as to why the Burchill piece was transphobic and their total lack of knowledge or familiarity concerning trans lives at that time was striking though sadly unsurprising to the trans participants. Disappointingly it seems they've learnt nothing since .. 2.
There is something sinister and outworn in the groupthink that The Observer feels entitles them to publish an opinion piece based on abstract fear-mongering, misinformation and a profound lack of first-hand knowledge of trans kids and their families' lives .. 3
They ignore (as it seems did the High Court) a wealth of evidence, dating back 30+years, concerning the benefits of puberty blockers for trans kids and the absence of ill effects from around the world .. Holland, USA, Australia, Canada etc .. 4
Trans people, who were all once children, have always existed (and most often been discriminated against) in every society throughout history. Trans kids just are. As with lesbian, gay, left-handed kids etc., it is utterly deplorable and untenable to .. 5

The mindset of The Observer that has allowed them to believe they can dictate morality on any subject even without any in-depth understanding of how issues affect real people is an anachronism. Sadly it's not quite dead yet. They still have influence .. 7
.. and who suffers from this? Trans children undergoing an unwanted puberty bear deep scars for the rest of their lives when appropriate treatment is withheld. And those loving parents who support their trans child suffer the utter trauma of being powerless to protect them

An evidence based summary on the ethics of prescribing puberty blockers to trans children .. Bear in mind that over the last decade the Tavistock GIDS have approved an average of less than 50 new prescriptions per year out of a UK population of millions https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/26895269.2020.1747768#.X8302il3np4.twitter
