My debut album Breaking Kayfabe came out 15 years ago today. I was 19 years old. I made the album in the attic at my mom’s house in Edmonton on a rickety desktop computer using cracked versions of Fruity Loops and Cool Edit Pro
I wanted to shock my friends, my family, myself, the world. There was no infrastructure or guidelines for how to do what I was doing. I taught myself how to make beats on my computer before GarageBand was on every Mac. There were no YouTube tutorials, YouTube hadn't launched yet
Even though I was in Edmonton, I didn’t think that was a deterrent. I felt lucky because I could create without expectations. I thought our music scene could compete with any other city in the world, I was constantly inspired. Shout out to @nikseven @shmeeli @Magillabrett
