A statement you here a lot about betting fighters at short prices is
"you just cant bet that straight you need to parlay it with something"
You can absolutely bet it straight.

$10 on a -1000 with a 5% roi
$10 on a +500 with a 5% roi
You make the same amount of profit from both these bets in the long term. There is no reason you cant play either straight.

Why would we want to parlay?
Just for fun really. Adding legs increases variance and we get bigger swings. All down to personal preference at the end of the day. Gambling is ment to be fun

Why wouldn't we want to parlay.
If we are trying to grow a bankroll ideally we want lower variance. With shorter prices and lower variance we can bet bigger. Betting bigger means quicker bankroll growth. Adding legs is doing the opposite and forcing us to bet smaller

Parlaying a +400 with a +1000 is fine if thats the variance level you want. Its no different to parlaying a -400 with a -200 really. Design the bet to get the level of risk you like.
If you are trying to aggressively grow a bankroll, you are better off just betting big, pushing your edge and playing bets straight up.
