Many of the MA state troopers who live near me park their vehicles in their driveways facing the road; like a speed trap. I don’t mind this, because I drive slowly anyway and it makes others slow down.

So when I drove by a trooper’s home today and saw a Trump sign that has morphed into a full on political installation;

...and a sign reading ‘Biden is not my president’, I started thinking about politics in law enforcement in the Trump era.
In past electoral cycles you have political opponents, not enemies, and our involvement is part of our duty as citizens.

But the Trump administration is a criminal enterprise that has sold his followers—captive in the Trump propaganda bubble—on a blatantly false alternate reality of conspiracy theories and sedition. 4/9
Law enforcement officers need to be trusted to discern truth from lies and serve their fellow citizens without prejudice. They should be standing up against racism even within their own ranks—as many do—if they witness acts of racism or violence against Black people.

I want to trust local law enforcement to handle it well if one of my well-armed neighbors gets out of hand asserting his second amendment rights. 6/9
I want to trust them to act to protect people who live in a home with a Black Lives Matter sign. 7/9
I want to trust them to know that there aren’t fine people on both sides when it comes to racist groups.

I want to know that being an honorable human being, a fellow citizen, and a neighbor is more important than your party.
Anyone who puts that much energy into telling me how they feel about Trump, as I drive past, is not someone in whom I want to place my trust. 9/9
