#DNACPR should be spoken about openly & honestly, like in this piece

Often it is a treatment that only does harm when performed on patients who are in a natural decline

Instead of talking about the perils of #DNACPR, I genuinely believe the conversation should focus on promoting “Goals of Care” conversations earlier in the patient journey

When healthcare professionals avoid telling patients that they are in a state of decline - rapid or not - we deny them the opportunity to plan the last phase of their life

Tasks that we often put off, like getting a will completed, instructions for loved ones about home affairs, making contact with estranged loved ones

And things important to us like quality time with our loved ones, spending time in our favourite places...
You can’t plan for these tasks if you aren’t aware you need to

Healthcare professionals need to get used to the idea of giving our patients realistic expectations of treatments

“Goals of Care” conversations are a method of doing this & #DNACPR forms part of this . @ShaunLintern
