Sometimes I wonder the way we like to fantasise about the UNIP days. For you youngsters who were not there. On the ballot we used to have Kenneth Kaunda and a Frog. This is why I value the democracy we fought for in 1991! Do not waste this right #RegisterToVoteZambia
I voted No that year of 1988 and in 1991 voted pa koloko in the first multi-party democratic elections since 1972 when Zambia was declared a One Party Participatory Democracy leading to 19 years of autocracy of KK and his band of cohorts in UNIP!
In 1971 the cream of Zambian elite from the Northern region of Zambia were detained without trial as part of the process of getting rid of Kapwepwe and the United Progressive Party (UPP). You need to understand this aspect of Zambian political history to know where PF came from!
The Patriotic Front through the late MCS fulfilled a long held desire by the Bemba clique originating from Chinsali & who were adherents of Lenshina to finally take the Office of President of Zambia after so many years of fighting KK who knew them well having grown up in Chinsali
Today this fight continues within the PF with the Eastern block of MMD holding the PF ransom. This fight will soon break out openly as we get into 2021. Wake ni wako is still highly practiced by the Eastern block. 2021 will be hot!
They only way to break these tribalists in PF and the MMD Eastern Block is for Zambians to overcome tribal sentiment and vote according to their conscious no matter the origin of the person seeking office. We all know the qualities we need in order for this nation to move forward
More importantly we need to bring the opposition together united to ensure that Zambia can finally have a people led Constitution that will entrench Democratic Governance, the rule of law and reduce the powers of the Office of President ensuring broad based consensus.
We must also ensure Separation of Powers and take away the ability of an individual to use the Presidency for personal gain. President Lungu and his band of cohorts are a serious danger to Zambia and we must ensure they do not have another 5 years to further erode our nation.
Let us have a balanced Parliament so that we can enact laws that will ensure that no one Zambian is more important than the other. Zambia belongs to all of us North, South, East and West.
