The estimated vaccine efficacy after the 1st (82%), between 1st and 2nd (52.4%) and after the second dose (95%) are all impressive! However, high affinity Ab and long term immunity likely require the 2nd dose and we should all adhere to the recommended regimen. (2/n)
Why do we need a booster shots? This is because B cell responses induced by first dose only generates lower levels, lower affinity and short lived antibody responses. The booster dose(s) allow stimulation of robust long-lasting immunity with high affinity/neutralizing Ab. (end)
